Lionel Messi booed by own fans as PSG suffer embarrassing defeat on his final appearance

Lionel Messi’s final game for PSG was overshadowed by a chorus of boos that greeted the Argentine superstar when he made his way onto the Parc des Princes for one last time.

Lionel Messi’s last dance with PSG hasn’t ended with a Champions League, nor an exciting Ligue 1 shoot-out – instead, it came in front of an unimpressed crowd against Clermont Foot 63.

Two years after he bid an emotional farewell to Barcelona, Messi was booed out of the Parc des Princes. In a short statement, Messi said: “I would like to thank the club, the city of Paris and its people for these two years. I wish you all the best for the future.”

Messi won Ligue 1 twice with PSG, and the 2022 Trophee des Champions, however, he failed to help them win their ultimate goal, the Champions League. In Europe, it’s been two years of heartbreak for the Parisian giants – with Messi at the centre of their frustrations.

Messi set the world on fire in Catalonia, but in Paris, he’s never quite seemed the same man.

It could be down to the fact he’s in his mid-thirties, but he was quick to show age wasn’t a factor with Argentina in Qatar. Five months after Messi conquered the world, the little magician was greeted with a chorus of boos at the home of the French champions.

It was far from the “warm welcome” Christophe Galtier had pleaded with the fans to give Messi in his final game.
